laundry room refresh

I hate doing laundry. Ask anyone in my family—I made the kids start doing their own when they were about eight years old. So, for this necessary evil task in our lives, it is more tolerable when the laundry room is gorgeous and super-convenient. It is worth the extra effort! Here are some fun examples…

Dryer Balls

Did you know that scented dryer sheets have carcinogenic chemicals that can cause health problems when inhaled or absorbed through the skin?

Reduce home toxins and protect your family by swapping out dryer sheets with wool dryer balls to naturally soften and reduce static to clothing, without the nasty toxins.

Essential Oils

Add some essential oil drops to the dryer balls for a refreshing and non-toxic way to revamp your laundry. Lavender is a great choice for fussy kids. Dry bed sheets with lavender to help promote sleep and ease to your bedtime routine.

Pretty, fresh and safe. As all our methods should be. Happy laundering.

this boho, jungle style is a crowd-pleaser…

Recently, we had a request for a “colorful, boho, greenery-infused” room recipe for a living room in Oakland. We put together a fun mood board and thought we would share it with you. Texture, color, texture and more texture. Put some wallpaper on the ceiling, add a boldly colored bookcase and then add some plants every which way. We include a shopping list if you are so inclined to hop on the jungle train. You’re welcome.

make it yours…

Sometimes it is harder than it looks. If we break down a room into its different elements and then make the shopping list, we can pull the items together into a cohesive space.

But first. The hardest part is the scale and making sure to fit the pieces to the space. Measure twice, cut once, so to speak. The best ways to do that are to see the pieces in person or mock up your intended pieces in the space with painters’ tape and poster paper so that you can get a sense of how they will feel. It takes longer but it is well worth it. Details like— how deep the is the sofa and can you move around it? will the armchairs tuck in under the dining table? will the painting open the space up or make the room feel crowded? will all the furniture fit onto the rug? are all important to consider. But equally important is that there is always more than one solution for the space and each quandary you encounter.

from vision to reality

I am going to give you these pictures in the before to after sequence so we start with the boring, unfinished room and go to the conceptualization via Pinterest to the amazing watercolor rendering AND then to, (drumroll please)...

the BIG REVEAL.

It is always presented this way on those shows on HGTV. But we designers want to show you the big work (because it is always BIG work--don't let those shows fool you) because we are so happy with the fruits of our labor. But I am going to live on the edge a bit. So here goes.
